Weekly Round-Up #5
A weekly newsletter about some of the interesting things I've read / listened to over the last week.
This was a bit of a busy week so didn’t get much reading done this time around. Just the one book this time.
Book read in the last week
1. The Devil’s Hand - Jack Carr: This is the fourth installment of the Terminal List Series by Jack Carr featuring former Navy Seal James Reece. You may have heard of the show on amazon prime which, I think, adapts the first book of the series. This was released in 2021 I believe and draws inspiration from the pandemic. The premise is around the concept of what would the terrorists of today do if they have been observing the opposition armed forces and learning from them. The answer is apparently biological warfare according to Jack Carr. There are several references to the pandemic, the systematic shutdown of life, and how ill-equipped we are in dealing with it. This gives the terrorists further motivation to go forward with these biological viruses at a time when the world is still trembling from the effects of the pandemic. It should be noted that there are several strong references to 9/11 with it being one of the underlying plot points for the actions depicted in the book. The book was a decent read overall. It was fast-paced, and I think I almost got through it in a single sitting. Fans of thrillers in the vein of Jack Reacher, The Gray Man, etc, will enjoy this book.
Rating: 3/5

1. Dark Matter Empire

Interesting articles read
Here are a few articles that I found interesting this week.

2. When the last thing you want to do is exercise.
Games Played this week
1. Grindstone - This is a fun ‘little’ game whose look reminded me of candy crush only the candy here are monsters. You basically create chains of monsters of the same colour to kill. You need to hit a certain count to progress to the next level. Items will be dropped which will allow you to switch monster colours mid-chain sequence hence extending the chain. There will be obstacles thrown at you making it a bit more challenging and all the more fun. While the levels themselves are small, there are so many in the game that you would be hard-pressed to finish the game anytime soon. It is quite a relaxing game nonetheless and easy to get a few minutes in during a break, and at times can get very addicting.
Well, that's it for this week! Thanks for making it this far! As mentioned before if you think someone might enjoy my ramblings then please do share this with them. I hope you had a good weekend, and here's to a good week ahead. Until next time!
