Weekly Round-up #3
A weekly newsletter about some of the interesting things I've read / listened to over the last week.
Organized my bookshelf this last week. Also spent some time cataloging what I have because I don’t want to end up with multiple copies of the same book (there are only so many copies of Good Omens one can have). Here's a pic of the result. No particular plan for the organization as such. I've tried to keep books from the same author together but that pretty much immediately fell apart. What we ended up with is a mish-mash of everything everywhere just trying to depict some semblance of order.
We also have Tony pictured in the mirror there, patiently waiting for me to get done so that I can give him some attention. How do you organize your bookshelves? Let me know!
Books currently reading/read in the last week
These are some of the books I've been reading over the last week
1. Dark Matter Empire - Alex Zadeh: This is a book I picked up from the Onlinebookclub. I’ve been meaning to improve my writing when it comes to penning reviews and I figured this may help in that regard. This book is a sci-fi / litRPG novel about a person who is abducted by an alien ship and is thrown into a universe and a war he didn’t know existed. About a third of the way in, and while there are a few things I have a problem with, the story is largely alright. I think I was being overly critical while reading the book so going forward I’m going to try and be a bit more lenient and pragmatic. I’ll be done in the coming week so expect a review of this in next week’s round-up!
2. Factotum - Charles Bukowski: This is my first Bukowski book and I’m not sure how I feel just yet. There’s a lot happening in the few pages that I’ve read, and while the character of Henry Chinaski is relatable in some ways, I’m struggling so far to empathize with him. Then again it’s only been a few pages. What I can say is that the book is written in very easy-to-follow language, so easy in fact that I had to force myself to stop and go to sleep. It just seems to flow on and on, in a good way. Hopefully will be done with this in the coming week so expect a full review soon.
"People don't need love. What they need is success in one form or another. It can be love but it needn't be.”
